Adventurer's Kit Update #7 - Important Correction of Our Artifact
almost 9 years ago

Maya or Aztec? That is a question.
Last week, as we launched our campaign for a couple of days, we received this message:
"The Aztec calendar artifact is presented as Mayan. As Mexican parents it is very important to us that our children learn about their heritage and culture and we really hope that it is not too late to make the correction in regards to the calendar artifact. "
It will be a shocking news to us if proved true, since the Maya Calendar from our game is chosen as one of the 4 major artifact for excavation. Most importantly, we did do some research and we thought we were correct.
After days of research, and contacting a Maya expert, we were sure that we made a mistake. The image we chose (a very famous one) for the artifact, was actually called the Aztec Calendar Stone, aka Sun Stone. We also found out that this was an often mistake made by designers, gamers, and bloggers. For example, a really popular game called Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar got it totally wrong.
(Sad to know that it may have misled millions of player around the world :/ )
Here we found a present a depiction of the two calendars:
Please also note that Aztec and Maya are two separated civilizations, neither one is the ancestor of the other, so they should not be linked together.
Cultural Education
To us, information correctness is our top priority when it comes to education.
Every civilization deserves a correct interpretation from others. Such correctness is the basics of respect and cultural education. So we spend some time updating our Kickstarter page, changing the description from Maya Calendar to Aztec Calendar, and also updating this information to the factories making Adventurer's Kit.
In the ending of this update, we would like to say thanks to our Mexican friend for reminding us before production, so that we could have a chance to make it right : )
